Odell Barnes Foreclosure King

I came across an article today that was fascinating. ABC has been following a story about a guy named Odell Barnes known as the Foreclosure King. At first glance I thought the Odell Barnes story was probably about another late night real estate infomercial, but it turns out this is the real thing. Odell Barnes actually buys foreclosed real estate by the thousands from banks, Fannie Mae and Freddi Mac. Then resells the real estate to local investors who then locate and sell to, potential homeowners.

The Odell Barnes Foreclosure King story is a ray of light in a murky economy. While the news is filled with stories of rich CEO's and their minions taking hundreds of millions of dollars in bailout money and then going on lavish vacations, Odell Barnes is helping ordinary Americans realize the dream of home ownership.

I was talking to a friend the other day, the friend has had many problems in his young life. Depression, suicide attempts and jail. The advice I gave him was that when he starts spending his life trying to make other people happy, instead of spending it on self gratification, he will find himself much happier. With that in mind I would imagine that Odell Barnes is a very happy man, albeit a busy one.

The story of Odell Barnes is a compelling one. To be able to build a business by providing a service that makes other people happy has to be very fulfilling. I started reading the comments left at the article, "Foreclosure King: Best Thing for Distressed Neighborhoods Is Homeowners," most of the comments were from people that would like to own their own home. My mind set has always been that we live where we have to until we can live where we want. Clearly even in this economy many people would like to own their own home and would like to experience the pride of home ownership.

I do not have the money personally to get into the foreclosure business like Odell Barnes, but do have the ability to provide information that would be valuable to potential homeowners. If you would like to buy a foreclosure the first place to start is your county courthouse. Most county courthouses have a simple system that enables one to find out what homes are being foreclosed on or have already been foreclosed on. Once you have that information it is a matter of tracking down the owner, be it a bank or investor, and attempting to make a deal.

Not everyone that purchases or invests in foreclosed property will operate the same as Odell Barnes, but if you want to own your own home the legwork can be worth it.

I came across the following website that lists foreclosures all over the country. The site does not give you all the information about a particular home unless you pay a few dollars for a 7 day trial. I am not in any way affiliated with them, so can not provide a lot of information.
