Don’t Throw your Computers Into Landfills
January 20th, 2012
Computers are changing and growing leaps and bounds with each year that passes. It is the electronic age and people are really starting to depend on their computers and cell phones to survive. The bad thing about computers changing so much each year is that the older models become obsolete and they become part of landfills. Electronic waste is horrible for the environment because it contains hazardous materials. Most people don’t know that they can recycle computers instead of throwing them away. There are components that can be reused in older computers.
There are companies like Veolia in Australia that recycle computers. They also take things like fax machines, mobile phones, printers, scanners, servers and much more. Pretty much anything that is electronic can be recycled at the right facility. Most people don’t know that electronic machines contain things like lead and mercury in them. These hazardous materials can easily leach into the earth and hurt the environment. Environmental image is very important for large corporations. People know about the damage that is being done to the environment each and every day and they like companies that want to do their part to prevent the problem from getting worse.
Larger corporations literally get rid of dozens of older model computers and many of them just throw them away. It is just ridiculous to throw them away when all they have to do is call a company like Veolia and they will give you a bin that is just for electronics and they will also set up an appropriate schedule to pick them up. Most of the components in older recycle computers can be reused. The circuit boards, cables, plastic and glass can be used in newer computers. Reusing these materials saves companies money and it also helps the environment.
There are a lot of people that don’t know what to do with their old electronics. It is very simple for electronics to get out of date quickly where people can’t even sell them so they throw them away instead. There are some very simple ways to recycle computers if companies do their homework. All it takes is a little bit of knowledge and a phone call for a company to be doing their part to help the environment and to get rid of their old electrical devices safely. Don’t throw your old computers away. Recycle them today.
