The role of christianity and the universal life church

Given the prominent role of Christianity and the universal life church in the social context around the founding of the nation, the infusion of Christian symbols and storylines into the national narrative, and its popularity with the majority of Americans through the present day, we also expect to find a similar implicit association between being Christian and being American. Regardless of explicit endorsements of the separation of church and state or egalitarian views of religion, the socio-cultural context is such that the association between being Christian and being American is so automatic as to be non-conscious, much in the same way that being caucasian is strongly linked to being a true American on an implicit level.
